Submission Grappling, Wrestling or MMA?
Understand the different training focuses before choosing a Forest Hills trial.

Submission grappling, wrestling and MMA overlap, but they do not have the same focus. Grappling develops control through positions and transitions. Wrestling emphasizes skills such as takedowns and control. MMA connects striking with takedowns and ground work. Ask the academy which introduction suits your current experience and interests.
Submission grappling
The submission-grappling pathway at Forest Hills covers positional control, escapes, leverage and submissions. It is a useful option to explore if you are interested in ground skills rather than a striking-centered class. Before booking, ask about clothing, beginner placement and how the first session introduces partner practice.
Wrestling
Wrestling focuses on skills for takedowns and positional control. The Forest Hills booking page has a separate wrestling option. Check the age group and equipment requirements with the team. If your longer-term interest is MMA, ask how wrestling training connects with the other disciplines and which session is the appropriate starting point.
Mixed martial arts
MMA combines striking, takedowns and ground skills, including transitions between those areas. Tell the academy what experience you have in each area rather than simply describing yourself as experienced or new. The team can help you decide whether to begin with the MMA introduction or build familiarity through a specific discipline.
