FIRST-CLASS GUIDE

Choosing a Martial Arts Routine You Can Attend

Compare your travel, program and schedule before selecting a training routine.

Book a free trial class

Begin with a practical location

A program is easier to explore when you can reach it reliably. Compare Forest Hills headquarters in Queens, Brewster in Putnam County and Bushwick in Brooklyn. Check the actual address and plan the journey at the time you expect to train. All three offer Boxing, Dutch Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Submission Grappling and MMA. Confirm each academy’s actual timetable and suitable class placement.

Separate trial appointments from member classes

The website calendars show introductory appointments. They are not the full timetable for regular members. Book a free trial to get started, then ask your academy which recurring classes fit your program and experience. Confirm the current days and times directly before building a weekly routine around them.

Choose a focus before adding more disciplines

Boxing emphasizes hand strikes and footwork. Dutch kickboxing combines punches and kicks; Muay Thai also includes knees, elbows and clinch fundamentals. All three academies also offer Submission Grappling and MMA. Brazilian jiu-jitsu and wrestling are taught within Submission Grappling. Use the trial to discuss which starting point fits what you want to learn.

Make the family schedule workable

For a child, confirm the correct age group and the practical arrangements for arrival and collection. Ask about parent observation and what equipment is needed. If several family members want to train, check each person’s available sessions rather than assuming the children’s and adult schedules line up.

Review after the first visit

Ask yourself whether the journey worked, whether the program matched your interests and whether the available class times fit your week. Discuss membership options and attendance expectations with the academy before choosing a plan. If you want to explore competition later, ask about the athlete pathway separately; a trial appointment alone does not place you on a fight team.

Choose your academy.
