Adult martial arts and fitness goals in Forest Hills

If you are considering martial arts as a regular activity, start with the skills you want to learn and the practical arrangements that fit your week. Striking 101 Forest Hills offers coached training in several disciplines. Tell the team about your experience, interests and starting point before choosing an introductory session.

Choose the training focus that interests you

Boxing focuses on punches, movement and defense. Dutch kickboxing combines punches and kicks. Muay Thai has its own striking curriculum. Submission grappling and wrestling focus on grappling, while MMA connects striking, takedowns and ground skills.

Explore Forest Hills boxing, Dutch kickboxing, Muay Thai, submission grappling, wrestling or MMA. Ask which session fits your experience; a program list is not a promise that every session is suitable for everyone.

The academy also has a strength and conditioning option. Discuss how it relates to your training interests rather than assuming every martial arts class has the same conditioning format. Striking 101 does not teach karate or taekwondo. Our program-selection guide can help you compare actual options.

Describe your goals without a transformation deadline

You might want to learn a sport, practice technical skills or find an activity you enjoy attending. Explain those goals and ask how the planned class balances instruction, active practice and conditioning.

An early goal could be understanding a position, remembering a combination or responding to a coaching correction. These are experiences you can discuss with the instructor, rather than measuring your first visits against a promised change in your body.

Training does not promise a particular calorie burn, rapid weight loss, a fixed increase in strength or flexibility, or a guaranteed physical or mental health outcome. Results and experiences vary. Discuss participation concerns before training begins; do not infer universal eligibility from an adult-program heading.

Understand contact and the actual class format

Ask what the introduction involves and how unfamiliar exercises are explained. Find out whether the planned session includes bag work, pads, partner drills or other activities. These are questions to confirm, not a description of every class.

Ask how partners are selected, what contact is involved and how to pause or raise a concern. Do not assume that boxing or kickboxing is always contact-free or that sparring is required in a first class. Confirm the arrangement for the session you would attend.

If competition interests you, discuss that separately. Booking an introduction does not enroll you on a fight team. Self-defense skills are taught within regular Striking 101 classes, but training cannot guarantee protection in a confrontation. Ask what is covered in your particular program.

Prepare before buying equipment

Confirm clothing, footwear, gloves, wraps and any other protection needed for your planned activities. Ask whether anything is supplied and whether there are additional costs. Do not assume loan gloves are included or apply one discipline’s requirements to another.

Bring water and confirm the appointment time, when to arrive and the academy address. Ask how any required equipment should fit and be used. Equipment does not remove all training risk.

Our equipment guide and first-class guide provide preparation questions. If you are returning after time away, explain your current experience rather than assuming a previous routine is still the right starting point.

Build attendance around the real timetable

Ask for the member class timetable. Introductory booking appointments are not the full recurring schedule. Consider travel, work, family and other commitments when discussing attendance with the team.

Choose a manageable starting arrangement and review it after your first visit. If a session conflicts with your week, ask about the actual alternatives. Do not adopt a professional athlete’s training hours or a fixed daily plan from a general article.

Our training-routine guide offers more questions. Confirm current membership terms and costs directly with the academy before making a commitment.

Track learning and ask for feedback

After class, write down one coaching point and one question. Ask what to focus on next and which practice, if any, is appropriate outside supervised training. Avoid turning home practice into contact drills with friends or family.

Notice whether instructions make sense, whether you can raise questions and whether the arrangements fit your goals. Missing a class does not erase what you learned; discuss how to resume and review the routine if it repeatedly conflicts with your commitments.

Our fundamentals guide and confidence guide discuss practical learning goals without a fixed proficiency timetable.
