CHILDREN’S STRIKING GUIDE
Boxing, kickboxing and Muay Thai within children's martial arts classes
At Striking 101 Forest Hills, Brewster and Brooklyn, boxing, kickboxing and Muay Thai are taught within the regular children's martial arts classes. If you found us by searching for kids' boxing or kickboxing, start with the appropriate children's martial arts group rather than looking for a separate children's discipline class.
Choose your child's age group
The children's program serves ages 4–8, and the kids' program serves ages 9–12. Contact your chosen academy to confirm the appropriate introduction for your child's age and experience.
Forest Hills, Brewster and Brooklyn have their own class arrangements. Ask the local team about the current timetable rather than assuming the same schedule applies at all three academies. The introductory booking calendar is not the full member timetable.
Understand what the class covers
Boxing, kickboxing and Muay Thai provide different striking skills. Ask the instructor how those skills are introduced in your child's group, what is appropriate for their experience, and how the class progresses.
This does not mean every class covers all three disciplines, or that children follow the adult program. Confirm the actual lesson format with the academy. Ask which activities are individual, which involve equipment, and whether there is any partner contact. Do not assume sparring or competition is included.
Questions to ask before the first visit
Ask who teaches the group, how instructions are adapted for different experience levels, and how children can ask for help. Discuss any participation needs directly with the team.
Confirm what clothing, gloves or other equipment is needed and whether anything is provided. Do not assume that equipment loans, specialist technology, camps or weekend sessions are included. Ask about arrival, collection and parent observation arrangements before booking.
Our guide to choosing children’s martial arts and first-class equipment guide offer more questions to ask.
Support learning without a deadline
A useful first goal might be following a coaching instruction, remembering a movement or becoming comfortable asking questions. Talk with your child after class about what they enjoyed and what they would like help with.
There is no seven-day promise of confidence or skill mastery. Improvement varies, and training does not guarantee better grades or prevent bullying. Discuss goals and progress with the instructor. Our children’s progress guide offers practical questions for those conversations.
Ask about practice outside class
If your child wants to practice at home, ask the coach what is appropriate. Do not assume that partner drills or contact techniques should be practiced without supervision. Follow the guidance for your child's group rather than an adult online workout or a generic daily training plan.
